Beatlemania at the Opera House
On Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 7pm, The Napa School of Music presented their Garage Band 101 Beatles concert at the Napa Valley Opera House to a capacity crowd of over 480 people.
Sixty-two musicians in seven bands played material from the “Fab Four” that ranged from the band’s early “Mop-Top” era songs to their swan song album, Abbey Road.
One of the highlights of the show was the 16-piece string section, “The Strawberry Strings”, consisting of students as young as 7 playing a beautiful version of “Eleanor Rigby”. coached the students in the weeks leading up to the event. The audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
Other bands included “Band On The Run”, The Yellow Bugs”, “Walrus”, “English Rain”, “Her Majesty and The Lonely Eggmen”, “The Red Hot Sgt. Peppers” and “The Fabulty” - the latter band consisting of NSM faculty members and a four-piece horn section. If you missed the show we have DVDs available for purchase on an “order only” basis.
Led Zeppelin and AC/DC rock Opera House too!
The next session of Garage Band 101 will be the music of Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. The concert is scheduled for Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 7pm at the Napa Valley Opera House. Deadline to sign up for this session is Tuesday, November 24th at 9pm.
