Drum Circle Class Adult

Napa School of Music is pleased to offer a new opportunity – Drum Circle! Hand drumming is a fun, and social way to make music! In this 8-week course, students will learn the three primary ways to play a djembe drum, the bass, tone, and slap. The instructor will teach students how to read rhythmic notation, and as a group, we will learn 3-5 traditional multi-part African rhythms such as Lamban, Sunu, and Mandiani. Bring your own drums from home, or play our selection of quality instruments. This class will focus on the djembe drum, but you will have the opportunity to get your hands on congas, cajones, and bongos. Class enrollment is limited, so sign up today, and get ready to drum!

Class Format:
The group will meet once a week on Fridays for 1 hour, from 6:30 PM- 7:30 PM. This is an 8 week course. In this time, students will learn the proper technique on the djembe drum as well as how to read rhythmic notation so that the group will be able to play traditional African beats together on djembe drums. The students will learn how to count quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, as well as triplets.
