What is the “Introduction to Songwriting” event?:

Class Format:
This one-day event is for anyone who’s been writing songs but feels like they want to know more, write more effectively and want to sharpen their writing skills.
It’s also for budding songwriters who are new to the craft of songwriting and want to learn techniques that will help them develop faster.

Who’s it for?

It’s for anyone who wants to write songs. You don’t need to know anything about Music Theory, play an instrument or even be able to sing. Just have a love, passion and desire to learn more about Songwriting.
This class is best suited for ages 16 and up.

Adults and beginners are very definitely welcome!
Why would I need to be taught how to write songs? Isn’t this talent something you’re just born with?

Let’s answer the second question first……
No is the answer – you don’t have to be born a songwriter. I’m not sure that’s even possible!
All successful songwriters work hard at their craft. Some learn by just listening to songs they like and absorb that information over decades. You may not want to spend the next 10 or 20 years or more just absorbing the information. You may want to get at it right now.
Many successful songwriters like John Mayer, Charlie Puth, Gillian Welch, Patty Larkin, Paula Cole, Diana Krall, Justin Tranter, Melissa Etheridge and many more have taken classes and gone to college to learn about songwriting.
Now the first question…….” Do I need to be taught how to write a song?”
It’s probably true for all of us, “I don’t know what I don’t know.”
It is possible right now that many of the easy, commonly used techniques that can make your songs even more powerful are unknown to you.

Knowledge is power in any field – including Songwriting.

This introductory class will teach you the basics of song structure, popular chord sequences, shortcuts to writing and finishing songs, how to develop a melody, basics of lyric writing and how to generate ideas so that you’re writing more and not waiting for inspiration to strike.
